Our flock is comprised of approximately 130 Rideau Arcott sheep; one of three breeds of domestic sheep that are truly Canadian, bred and developed in Canada. Rideau sheep are used increasingly in commercial flocks to improve the maternal traits within that flock.

Traits such as age at first lambing, lambing interval, ewes lambing compared to ewes exposed, number born, number weaned, mothering ability and milking ability are considered maternal traits. The ability of the Rideau ewe to breed out of season is important in ensuring that there is a supply of lamb year-round. The Rideau is considered to be a maternal line breed because they excel in the performance of these maternal traits.

In addition, we have a Texel ram which we use primarily as a terminal sire to improve meat characteristics. The Texel is a meat breed and is a lean, medium-size sheep that has a high muscle to bone ratio. These characteristics combined with the strong maternal traits of the Rideau ewe, yield beautiful lambs with high-yielding carcasses and deep loins.
